Lion of the Desert

Omar Mukhtar Muhammad bin Farhat Bredan, known by the Italian colonialists as Matari Mnfia, was the leader of the people's struggle in Eastern Libya under Senussi, who fought against the Italian occupation of Libya.
 In 1895, Omar went to Sudan and participated in the rise of Mahdi Sudani against British rule. After the defeat of Sudani's struggle, he returned to Libya. Italy with the aim of controlling Libya went to war with the Ottoman Turks and won.
 Mukhtar, with the support of the Libyan tribes, fought against Italy and caused many casualties on the opposing side. In 1931 the Italians captured Omar and caused many casualties on the opposing side. On 16 September 1931 Italy arrested Omar and hanged him.

 The history of Omar al-Mukhtar's extraordinary life, at least in the final phase of his life, is depicted in the film Lion of the Desert (Lion of Desert).
